controlled ovarian stimulation

      controlled ovarian stimulation

Ovulation problems are a common cause of fertility issues. Fortunately this is one of the easiest problems to solve. IO is in fact a method by which female ovaries are stimulated to release oocytes for a successful fertility. The goal is to immitate a natural fertility by producing a dominant follicle using a variety of drugs, including clomiphene citrate, metformin, letrozole or FSH.

COS steps:

First Step: Ovulation stimulation medicines are given to patients through different protocols based on patient’s hormonal status, age and other conditions according to physician’s diagnosis. These drugs may be used alone or in combination.

Second step: In most cases, patients are controlled by transvaginal ultrasonography to monitor the quantity and size of ovarian follicle.

Third step: Ovulation has done, so the couple should have intercourse.

Application:

Controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) is a fertility treatment that helps women with ovulation problems. The groups that benefit from this approach are:

– Women who do not ovulate.

– Women who do not ovulate regularly (for example, women with irregular periods), nearly 30-40% of infertile patients suffer from irregular or abnormal ovulation.

In the presence of one of the following factors, there may be problems with ovulation:

1-  Lack of menstrual periods

2-  Irregular menstrual periods

3- Thyroid disease

4- Obesity

5- Sever weight loss

6- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

7-  Women who do not usually ovulate normally

8-  Women who regularly ovulate, but cannot become pregnant naturally (inexplicable infertility).

COS also helps with assisted reproductive technologies such as ICSI / IVF or IUI (to ensure that mature oocytes for fertilization will be available at the time of the procedure).
